Izwi Lamagugu is a vibrant cultural initiative that celebrates and preserves the rich heritage and indigenous languages of Mpumalanga Province. Rooted in the heart of the Mpumalanga Poetry Festival, this project shines a spotlight on the voices, stories, and traditions of local communities, expressed through powerful spoken word and poetic performance.
The name Izwi Lamagugu, which means "The Voice of Heritage", reflects our mission to empower poets and storytellers to honor their roots while creating platforms for intergenerational knowledge-sharing. The project features performances and workshops in SiSwati, isiNdebele, and Xitsonga, three of the province's prominent indigenous languages. Through these expressions, we promote linguistic pride, cultural identity, and social unity.
Whether you are a lover of the arts, a language activist, or a young poet finding your voice, Izwi Lamagugu invites you to engage with stories that echo the past while inspiring the future. Join us in celebrating the beauty of our heritage through the living, breathing art of poetry.
